Barcelona sell Geyse to Manchester United

Barcelona reached an agreement with Manchester United to sell Brazilian striker Geyse Da Silva Ferreria — or Geyse — for a fee of around €300,000.
After only one season with the Catalan side, Geyse is set for a new adventure in the Women’s Soccer League.
The move comes after a few days of speculation where the player was spotted at Old Trafford, all but confirming the rumors. It also comes after her agent made some public statements linking Geyse’s future away from Barcelona.
“I am very happy to be here,” Geyse said in an interview with Manchester United’s official website. “Signing for United has been a very special day for me and my family.
“I am very grateful for this opportunity and thank everyone for making it happen.”
Geyse should serve as the replacement for Alessia Russo who left to join Arsenal.
Barcelona signed Geyse from Madrid CFF only a season ago. Despite a promising start, she struggled to score goals though still managed to find ways to contribute. If there was a turning point to her time there, it had to be the elimination in the Copa de la Reina.
Geyse featured in Barcelona’s 9-0 drubbing of Osasuna in the round of 16. However, she was ineligible to play as she was shown two red cards in a Copa de la Reina match the season before. It resulted in Barcelona being bounced out of the tournament.
The elimination seemed to effect Geyse’s confidence.
What also could have factored in the decision to leave was she never became the unquestioned starter. Asisat Oshoala was, at times, the preferred option of manager Jonatan Giraldez.
In any respect, the deal seems to have worked out for all involved.
Manchester United get their striker and a replacement for Russo, Geyse goes to a side where she’ll likely have more prominence and Barcelona get a sizable transfer fee for a player whose contract was running down and could have theoretically left on a free.
